God wants us to eat Him. As unusual as this statement sounds, it is one of the most basic truths found in the Bible. All of us are familiar with eating in the physical realm-it is an essential and enjoyable part of our lives. But how many of us realize that our eating is a shadow of a more profound reality? Without a doubt, we are all aware of a hunger that is not merely corporeal. Consequently, we must admit that there is a deeper kind of eating than just taking food into our bodies. But who has experienced the most profound definition of what it means to eat? Who has discovered that God is edible and that He intends for us to eat Him?

Many of us live in societies that have been endowed with untold wealth and prosperity. Yet even with all of our luxuries and modern advantages, our generation and those around us are starving to death. We continue to fill ourselves with a steady diet of temporal pleasures. But the abundance of wealth, the increase of entertainment, and the rising tide of materialism only leave us hungrier than before. Where is the food that can enliven us, satisfy us, and fill our lives with a meaning and a purpose greater than ourselves?

Only God as food can fulfill these longings in us. This extraordinary idea may provoke in some a sense of impossibility or even absurdity. After all, how could God be our food? How could we eat the Creator? As startling as this thought is, He is the food that can satisfy our hunger.

But as with all food, it is only in the eating that we can appreciate and be satisfied by God. In this issue of Generation, we therefore invite you to explore and experience the wonderful fact that we can eat God.
