THE KEY TO KNOWING GOD—
THE HUMAN SPIRIT
And the God of peace Himself sanctify you wholly, and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. (First Thessalonians 5:23) God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truthfulness. (John 4:24)
Man has three parts—spirit, soul, and body. However, only our spirit, which is deeper than our mind, emotion, and will, can contact God directly. In order to contact God, we need to know how to live in our spirit and turn to our spirit. Our human spirit is the key to touch the essence of who God is.
TWO SPIRITS—ONE SPIRIT
But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit. (First Corinthians 6:17)
We can be instantly linked to God through our spirit. Upon belief in the Lord Jesus, we are one spirit with God Himself. This fact is a hidden key that unlocks the way to God.
GENUINE PRAYER
Moreover, in like manner the Spirit also joins in to help us in our weakness, for we do not know for what we should pray as is fitting, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. (Romans 8:26)
Prayers composed merely by the mind without use of the human spirit do not constitute the prayer that God desires. The real significance of prayer is to contact God in our spirit and to absorb God Himself. Genuine prayer is direct contact between the human spirit and the Spirit of God, that is, between man and God.
READING THE BIBLE
For the word of God is living and operative and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit and of joints and marrow, and able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12)
The Bible as the word of God operates to divide our soul from our spirit. By reading the Bible we are brought from our soul to our spirit, where the things of God are made clear.
PRAYING OVER THE BIBLE
And receive the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which Spirit is the word of God, by means of all prayer and petition, praying at every time in spirit. (Ephesians 6:17-18)
To receive the word of God properly, we should use our human spirit. We use our human spirit when we pray. By using the words of the Bible to pray, we are ushered into our spirit and the significance of the words in the Bible are unveiled.
OUR SPIRITUAL FOOD
Your words were found and I ate them, and Your word became to me the gladness and joy of my heart. (Jeremiah 15:16)
The Bible is the word of God, and the word of God is our food. When we digest and assimilate God's word, it becomes the constituent of our being. When God's word enters into our heart, it causes us to be full of joy and to rejoice.
THE MILK OF THE WORD
As newborn babes, long for the guileless milk of the word in order that by it you may grow unto salvation, if you have tasted that the Lord is good. (First Peter 2:2-3)
God's word is not only for us to study or to learn, but even more for us to taste and enjoy. By tasting the word, it is possible to taste the Lord. Coming to the Bible with the realization that it is food and drink is the only way to taste the Lord.
SINGING
And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissoluteness, but be filled in spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and psalming with your heart to the Lord. (Ephesians 5:18-19)
Being drunk causes us to become intemperate and depraved, but being filled in our spirit with Christ causes us to overflow with the enjoyment of God, as exhibited in speaking, singing, and psalming. Singing to God with our whole heart is another way to experience the joy of contacting God.
To receive the Lord Jesus as the Spirit into your spirit, please pray the following prayer from your heart:
"Lord Jesus, I open my whole being to You. Thank You for creating me with a spirit to receive You. Lord Jesus, right now I open to receive You as the Spirit into my spirit. Forgive me of my sins and come into me right now to fill the deepest part of my being with Yourself."
